Lynn Helding

Keynote Speaker

Lynn Helding, Professor of Practice in Voice and Voice Pedagogy at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, is the author of “The Musician’s Mind: Teaching, Learning & Performance in the Age of Brain Science” and the chapter “Brain” in Scott McCoy’s “Your Voice: An Inside View” 3rd edition. A thought-leader in the movement toward science-informed voice pedagogy, she is a co-founder of the NATS Science-Informed Voice Pedagogy Institute. In May 2023 she assumed the role of editor-in-chief of the Journal of Singing. A devoted teacher, she was recognized as a “legendary figure in the field of voice pedagogy” by the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University, receiving their 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ari Agha

Ari Agha (they/them) is a genderqueer singer, creator, and researcher. Their project, Key of T (www.keyoft.com) is the first rigorous study of transgender singing voice transition with testosterone and an interdisciplinary performance. Ari has a Ph.D. in sociology and is pursuing an MM in voice.

Mauricio Alfaro

Ph.D. Student in the Voice Biology lab at Vanderbilt University. I am an assistant professor at Universidad del Bio-Bio with a focus on academia and research. I research the localization of structural proteins of the vocal fold, particularly those with a homeostatic role and participation in programmed cell death.

Carolina Aviles

Professional singer and voice teacher with BMus, BEd degrees who works as a vocal coach for recording artists.

She’s studying MA in Voice Pedagogy at Voice Study Centre, UK, is certified in Somatic Voicework ™ in USA, and did an internship with Dr. Marco Guzman on Voice assessment and pathology.

Linda Balliro

Vocal instructor, coach and author of “Being A Singer: The Art, Craft and Science” (Chicago Review Press 2019) Linda Balliro, Associate Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music in Boston, has been training singers across the globe for over 20 years. Her students are regularly accepted to high level universities and conservatories, audition for musical theater regionally, nationally and on Broadway, record and tour in opera, musical theater, rock, pop, R&B and jazz in the US, Canada, Europe, South America and Asia.

Elizabeth Benson

A prolific author, Dr. Elizabeth Ann Benson’s research examines issues at the intersection of social justice and voice pedagogy. She is an Associate Professor of Music Theatre Voice at Auburn University and the owner of Benson Music Studios, offering voice training for musical theatre, popular, and contemporary singers and teachers. www.elizabethannbenson.com

Kenneth Bozeman

Kenneth Bozeman, Professor Emeritus of Lawrence University, BM, Baylor, MM, University of Arizona, advanced study at the Conservatory of Music in Munich; Van Lawrence Fellowship, 1996; American Academy of Teachers of Singing 2019; author of a number of articles and the books, Practical Vocal Acoustics and Kinesthetic Voice Pedagogy.

Joanne Bozeman

Joanne Bozeman, a graduate of the University of Arizona, has been a singing teacher for nearly 50 years, 26 of them at Lawrence University. She is co-author of the book, Singing Through Change: Women’s Voices in Midlife, Menopause, and Beyond, (2020), and presents frequently on this topic.

Catherin Brown

Catherine K. Brown is a private musical theater voice teacher in Downingtown, PA, and a Graduate Student in Applied Mindfulness at West Chester University. Her research focuses on the effects of an 8-week mindfulness course in people with voice disorders. She holds a B.A. in music and German from St. Olaf College.

Sara Campbell

Sara is a faculty member at the Holland College School of Performing Arts, a Berklee Global Partner school, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Sara’s background is in jazz performance & adult education, and is studying singing voice habilitation with PAVA-RV, Melanie Tapson.

Lady Catherine Cantor-Cutiva

SLP, MSc and PhD with experience on designing and implementing voice therapy for patients with organic and functional voice disorders and epidemiological assessment of work-related and socio-economic consequences of voice disorders on primary, secondary, and college teachers.

Yu Hin Bryan Chan

Chan Yu Hin Bryan is an MFA candidate at Boston Conservatory at Berklee studying Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy. Bryan’s love for both classical and CCM pedagogy has motivated him to research on subjects that helps teachers instruct CCM singing with evidence-based pedagogy, providing students with access to non-traditional singing styles.

Anuja Chhabra

Dr. Chhabra is an NCCIH-funded post-doctoral researcher at the National University of Natural Medicine. Her training in Speech Pathology, Psychology, Neuroscience, and Mind-Body Practices feeds her research on complementary modalities in speech and voice disorders like muscle tension dysphonia and lifestyle variables including positive relationships, nutrition & exercise in whole-person health.

Andre Chiang

André Chiang has been described as “handsome of voice” (Opera News) and lauded with “let’s hear more from this singer” (Washington Post). Chiang was in the first cohort of PAVA-RV. Sy Han Chiou

Dr. Chiou is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at the University of Texas at Dallas, who completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His research interests are applying machine learning techniques to dynamic risk predictions and developing efficient algorithms for computationally intensive problems.

Cassandra Claude

Voice Professor and author of “A Singer’s Compass”, Cassandra is a representation of fine vocal technique to emerging and professional singers. She earned a bachelor’s in Music Education and started her own company. Cassandra then earned a Master of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship to provide better leadership for Vocal Studies.

Aura Cleveland

Aura is a trauma-informed expressive arts facilitator, certified nursing assistant, yoga teacher, and wellness coach passionate about facilitating therapeutic art, holistic mental health education, and community events to promote wellness and quality of life. Her mission is to share support and tools for relaxation, comfort, inspiration, and playful transformation.

Alexandra Colaizzi

Alex(andra) Colaizzi is a professor and professional mezzo-soprano. She currently serves on the voice faculty of Miami-Dade College and as Artistic Education Coordinator for GRAMMY-nominated professional choral ensemble Seraphic Fire. She recently completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Miami.

Josaphat Contreras

Josaphat is an educator, researcher and performer. 1st place winner of the 2023 National Opera Association poster presentation competition, his scope of research entails mariachi voice acoustics and repertoire. Currently, a voice instructor of the Eleonor England NYC Studio, most notable performance credits include the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, and Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.

Rachel E. Copeland

Rachel E. Copeland continues to receive acclaim as a “revelation with her coloratura soprano leaping easily to impossible heights!” She is a sought after artist combining her crystalline voice with her compelling and energetic stage presence. Ms. Copeland recently debuted at Avery Fisher Hall as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass to rave reviews as well as performances with the Brussels Chamber Orchestra in a concert of arias and duets. Other career highlights include solo appearances with Cleveland Opera Theater, San Diego Opera, Indianapolis Opera, and North Carolina Opera. Dr. Copeland holds the Doctor of Music degree in Vocal Performance with a minor in Music History from Indiana University and the  Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees in Voice Performance from Baylor University. Dr. Copeland is a member of the Voice Department at Penn State School of Music and the Associate Director of Graduate Programs, and the General Manager and Chair of the Voice Faculty at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival

Karin Cox

Karin Titze Cox, MA CCC/SLP, Vocologist received her vocology track certificate from the University of Iowa. She’s worked in clinics and research labs at the University of Iowa and Utah and directs several clinics in private practice. Her service on the board of PAVA and NCVS also inspires her to do research and outreach and her experience as a singer and teacher (SVI) complements her desires for knowledge in vocology.

Gloriana Cruz

Dr. Gloriana Cruz holds a ClinScD from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. She has worked as a professor at different universities in P.R. and the United States. She is currently serving as program chair and associate professor of the SLPA Program at the College of DuPage.

Stephen D'Amico

Stephen DAmico served as the inaugural clinical fellow at the Texas Voice Center where he specialized in the evaluation and treatment of voice and upper airway disorders. He holds a MS in speech-language pathology from Stony Brook University and a BM in vocal performance from New England Conservatory.

Troy Dargin

Dr. Dargin has an eclectic array of degrees- a PhD in Speech-Language Pathology concentrating on the performing voice, several music degrees (MM Voice Performance, MME Vocology focus, BSEd Vocal Music) and several law degrees (JD, three LLM’s, one with focus in health law). His professional accolades focuses on building new graduate MS SLP programs, of which he has been part of building three as founding program director and/or faculty member. He maintains a professional practice in NYC for professional voice users and has a certified practitioner in Lessac Body/Voice.

Amanda Demane

Amanda Demane, M.A., CCC-SLP is Speech Pathologist II in the Division of Speech Pathology in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of oropharyngeal swallowing disorders, as well as head and neck cancer speech and swallowing restoration.

Sarah DeYong

Sarah DeYong graduated from Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2023 with her MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy. She grew up in Oklahoma and earned her BM in Music Theatre from Oklahoma City University. She currently runs a private studio in Oklahoma to continue research and application of trauma-informed care.

Devin Dolquist

Devin Dolquist is an MA-SLP graduate currently pursuing his MM in Vocal Performance at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. His research explores agency and identity in transgender voices. A trans man himself, Devin’s mission is contributing to voice work designed by and for trans people.

Megan Durham

Megan Durham serves on the voice faculty at the University of Louisville. A trauma-informed voice care facilitator, she also works as a singing voice specialist collaborating with the Louisville Center for Voice Care. Megan is a practitioner of Transcending Sexual Trauma Through Yoga, Movement For Trauma, YogaVoice and LifeForce Yoga.

Grace Drummond

Grace Drummond graduated from Lawrence University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance. She now teaches and performs in Madison, WI. An advocate for disability within the music world, she volunteers through Arts for All and recently created a multimedia recital about her experience with invisible illness.

María Duarte

Abigail Dueppen

Abigail Dueppen, MM, MS, CCC-SLP is coloratura soprano who has performed in international opera houses, a speech-language pathologist at the Texas Voice Center at Houston Methodist Hospital, a PhD student at the University of Houston, and the Director of the Vocology Certificate Program and an Instructor at Lamar University.

Sirisha Duvvuru

Dr. Sirisha Duvvuru is a Speech Language Pathologist and a Carnatic Vocalist. Dr. Duvvuru completed her doctoral program under the mentorship of Dr. Molly Erickson in 2012 from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Duvvuru also earned a graduate degree in Carnatic Music in 2017 (India) and has taught Indian classical music for more than seven years.

Helene Fisher

Hélène R. Fisher, SLP.D., CCC is an associate professor in Speech-Language Pathology at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her area of specialization is Voice-Resonance Disorders, Craniofacial Anomalies and Gender Affirming Voice Care. Dr. Fisher teaches graduate level classes and supervises graduate clinicians in the evaluation and treatment of clients of all ages.

Rachelle Fleming

Rachelle Fleming specializes in the habilitation and vocal health of the professional voice, and is an NCVS-trained vocologist. Dr. Fleming is an Associate Professor at Temple University, and Artist-Faculty at the Aspen Music Festival in Opera Theater and VocalARTS. Rachelle served as Summit Director for Aspen Music Festival’s first ever The Art of Singing: A Summit for Vocal Pedagogues in 2022.

Juliana Franco

Juliana Franco, DMA in Voice Pedagogy and MM in Opera from the University of Maryland. She has performed in operas, recitals, and recordings in the US, Brazil, and Europe. Her research focuses on Brazilian Portuguese diction. Last year she presented at the 10th ICVT in Vienna and the 57th NATS in Chicago, IL.

Walt Fritz

US-based physical therapist Walt Fritz teaches a unique interpretation of manual therapy to speech-language pathologists, voice professionals, and other related communities. His gentle, non-manipulative, and interactive approach advances views of causation and impact from historical tissue-specific models into a multifactorial narrative, leaning heavily on biopsychosocial influences.

Robert Fritz

Robert Fritz is a recent graduate of Florida Atlantic University’s Communication Science and Disorders program. As an actor and teaching artist, Robert has worked on stages locally and nationally. His experience as a performing artist informs his clinical work as a speech-language pathologist, supporting evidence-based treatment for the professional voice.

Madeline Hiatt

Maddie Hiatt is a second-year MFA Performance & Pedagogy candidate at Texas Tech University. Her interests lie in vocal coaching, improvisation, devised work, empathic pedagogy, and performance. She is a current member of VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association).

Klo Garoute

Klo Garoute is a transgender singer, voice teacher, and choral conductor. She carries a B.M. from Berklee College of Music and studies in the M.M. program in Choral Music at University of Southern California. She serves as a gender-affirming voice teacher at the fully-remote voice studio of TransVoiceLessons.

Julia Gerhard

Julia Gerhard is a voice clinician who works in private practice as well as with the voice team at the University of Miami. She holds a DMA in vocal performance and a MA in Communication Sciences. She is passionate about mindfulness of the voice.

Melissa Grassia-Chisholm

Melissa Grassia-Chisholm MS CCC-SLP specializes in voice, swallowing, upper airway. She studied vocal performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and later received her bachelor’s degree at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. Music has always been her passion and sings locally today. She continued with the medical side of voice management and received her Master’s Degree at Nova Southeastern University in Ft Lauderdale, FL. She believes that “Every voice deserves to BE HEARD”.

Marco Guzman

Dr. Guzman is a voice pathologist with twenty years of clinical and academic experience. He received his Ph.D. in Vocology from the Tampere University, Finland. He also holds a certification in vocology from the University of Iowa and National Center for Voice and Speech (USA).

Nancy Harris

An accomplished and widely experienced teacher, adjudicator, clinician, and performer, Nancy has had a private studio for over 40 years, was a college professor for 15 years (speech, acting & movement, music appreciation, and multiple humanities courses), plus produced two jazz albums and two children’s song and story anthologies.

Allen Henderson

Allen Henderson is executive director of NATS, promoting continuing education for voice teachers; publishing a recognized scholarly journal, Journal of Singing; and promoting voice education among a wide array of constituencies, from recreational singers to voice educators and medical doctors. He is also professor of voice at Georgia Southern University.

Rachel Hirshorn-Johnston

Rachel is an Associate Professor of Voice and Speech and the Head of Acting & Directing at Texas Tech University and a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®. She coaches and performs regionally in professional theatre, and her work has been praised (New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, among others) throughout the US and Europe.

Jesse Hoffmeister

Jesse Hoffmeister, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota. His clinical and research interests are in assessment and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders. His research focuses on novel applications of high-resolution manometry to measure vocal tract movement during voice production and swallowing.

Maegan Hoogerhyde

Maegan Hoogerhyde is a graduate student at New England Conservatory. She presented at the 2022 Hybrid PAVA Symposium and at NEC’s 2022 Vocal Pedagogy Symposium. She has been teaching privately since 2019 and has performed roles such as First Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Asteria in Handel’s Tamerlano.

Maxwell Hope

Maxwell Hope (he/they) is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Delaware conducting his dissertation research on the creation, perception, and use of nonbinary synthetic voices by nonbinary users of speech generating devices. They use a community-informed and directed approach to research and see research as a form of activism.

Nicolás Hormazábal

Nicolás Hormazábal is a Voice teacher specialized in Rock and Metal, which has helped more than 1000 students to achieve singing using “extreme voices”, his outstanding performance has positioned him as one of the greatest coaches in the world

Maíra Jaber

Maíra dos Santos Jaber, MM, is an active professional singer, singing teacher and music director from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is currently a PhD student at the Music Program at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she develops research on Voice Performance / Pedagogy and Music Cognition. She is a member of the “Music Cognition in Creative Processes Research Group” at the same University. In 2021, she received the “Prêmio Paulo Pontes”, an important award to encourage voice research in Brazil and in 2022 she received the Best Student Poster Presentation at PAVA Hybrid Symposium. She is the founder and director of SING Studio, where she teaches Contemporary Christian Music, Brazilian Music, Gospel, Jazz, R&B and other CCM styles. She also works as a diction coach for singers who want to sing Brazilian Jazz in its original language. Maíra Jaber is a contemporary Christian music recording artist, worship leader, choir conductor and voice producer.

Kimberly James

Dr. Kimberly Gratland James, Mezzo-Soprano, teaches applied voice and graduate courses in voice pedagogy and diction at the UNLV School of Music. James maintains an active performance career, particularly as a concert artist and recitalist. She regularly presents posters and invited sessions at regional, national, and international conferences on diverse pedagogic topics.

Aaron Johnson

Aaron M. Johnson, MM, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a researcher and speech–language pathologist at the New York University Voice Center. His research examines the effects of vocal training on aging laryngeal muscles. A former professional singer and teacher of singing, his clinical focus is treating voice disorders in performing artists.

Liz Johnson

Liz Johnson lives and works in Nashville, TN, and has been teaching voice for 19 years. She combines her professional experiences in mental health work, jazz, and vocology to help singers improve their vocal function. She is a charter member of PAVA, and served as Central Governor 2017-2019.

Sarah Kervin

Sarah Kervin is a performer, pedagogue, and voice-specialized speech language pathologist. She served as an Assistant Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music for almost a decade and now works as a voice therapist at the Grabscheid Voice and Swallowing Center of Mount Sinai in New York City. She specializes in rehabilitating performers and is passionate about vocal education for prevention of voice disorders among young singers.

Alice Kim

Alice Jihyun Kim is a Korean singer/actor/voice teacher based in NYC and Boston. Kim holds a Master of Fine Arts degree (will be awarded in July 2023) in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory at Berklee and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre from Five Towns College.

Carol Krusemark

Carol Krusemark is a voice-specialized speech/language pathologist at the MGH Voice Center. Current clinical focus includes rehabilitation of the speaking and singing voice, the impact of trauma on the professional and emerging vocalist, and trauma-informed care in voice therapy, the vocal studio, clinical supervision, and graduate speech pathology education.

Mario Landera

Mario A. Landera, SLP.D., CCC-SLP, BCS-S is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Chief in the Division of Speech Pathology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of voice and oropharyngeal swallowing disorders, as well as head and neck cancer speech and swallowing restoration.

Adam Lloyd

Dr. Lloyd is an assistant professor and voice pathologist in the department of Otolaryngology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He specializes in evaluation and treatment of voice disorders, rehabilitation of the singing voice, and gender affirming voice care. His research interests are in voice disorders and vocal pedagogy.

Luiza Lobo Capaverde

Luiza Lobo is certified in Vocology by the University of Utah and the National Center for Voice and Speech (USA), post-graduated as a specialist in Sciences of Voice, Speech and Singing by the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and has an MBA in Coaching and Leadership (Brazil). Luiza is a singing teacher, professional singer and co-founder of the Full Voice® Institute, a Brazilian company whose network serves more than 1000 singers a month and in which she has trained more than 1500 singing teachers.

Caio Loesch

Caio Loesch is a professional singer, songwriter and vocal technique teacher. Is associate professor at the Corporate University of Contemporary Singing UNIACEV, of the Brazilian Institute of Contemporary Singing and member of the Pan-American Vocology Association. Holding degrees in Music Education and Psychology, Caio received international recognition for teaching, through biomechanics and laryngeal physiology, the various adjustments present in contemporary singing styles.

Janine Magnin

Based in the UK, Janine Paula Magnin is a PhD student at the University of Limerick and works as a researcher and children’s singing teacher. Magnin’s qualifications are: MA from the Institute of Education (UCL), PGCE (University of Cape Town), LTCL in Musical Theatre and BMus-Voice (University of Cape Town).

Brian Manternach

Brian Manternach, DM, is an associate professor in the University of Utah Department of Theatre and a research associate for the Utah Center for Vocology, where he is on the faculty of the Summer Vocology Institute. His students have been cast in film, TV, Broadway tours, Off-Broadway, and regional theatre.

Jeremy Manternach

Jeremy Manternach is Associate Professor and area chair of Music Education at the University of Iowa, where he teaches choral pedagogy, music education, and research courses. He is a frequent guest clinician and conductor. His research interests include choral conducting gesture, singer efficiency, adolescent changing voice, and vocal/choral acoustics.

Jay Marchand Knight

Jay Marchand Knight (they/them/iel) is a Frederick Lowy Fellow at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Their research is concerned with voice timbre and gender perception. Jay is also a parent of three, a performing opera singer and voice teacher at McGill University and The Voice Lab, Inc.

Christine Martin

Christine Martin is an experienced speech pathologist with over 25 years treating voice and airway disorders. She is a certified member of ASHA Special Interest Group – Voice. Chris has treated voice and airway disorders at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, IL for over 10 years. She is a master clinician and has served as a mentor for numerous clinicians and students. Chris earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. While at Indiana, she sang with the Grammy Award winning Singing Hoosiers. She is passionate about spending time in nature and working on obedience and agility with her dog Chip.

Lynn Maxfield

Lynn Maxfield, PhD, is Director of the Utah Center for Vocology and Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the University of Utah’s School of Music. He is as the Voice Coach at the University of Utah Voice Disorders Center and Associate Editor of the Mindful Voice column of the NATS Journal of Singing.

Courteney McClutchy

Courteney earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Point Park University in downtown Pittsburgh. She is currently a graduate clinician at the University of Florida in Gainesville earning her MA in Communication Science and Disorders. She is a Graduate Research Assistant in the Upper Airway Dysfunction lab and recently defended her Master’s Thesis on The Impact of Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training on Vocal Loudness in Parkinson Disease: A Case Series. Her goal is to provide voice & swallowing care for any patient’s vocal/dysphasic needs.

Jacqueline McCurdy

Jacqueline McCurdy, DMA, NCVS-trained Vocologist, is finishing her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Jacqueline also teaches voice and is an active performer. Her passion is to find the intersection of voice and speech-language pathology to create innovative rehabilitative treatments.

Deirdre Michael

Deirdre D. (“D.D.”) Michael is speech-language pathologist, singing teacher, and singer. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota, and co-directs the Lions Voice Clinic there. She has served as Co-Director of PAVA’s annual symposium for the last three years.

Stephannie Moore

Dr. Stephannie Moore’s teaching career spans more than two decades, specializing in Musical Theatre and Classical Voice. A sought-after audition and performance coach, her students perform on stages across the US and abroad. She is faculty at Florida International University, launching their new BM and MM degrees in Musical Theatre.

Adam Moxness

Adam is a passionate performing artist, educator, and collaborator. He holds his MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory at Berklee with research in providing accessible arts education to students with disabilities. Benjamin Munson

Ben Munson is professor and chair of the department of speech-language-hearing sciences at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. His research examines how people perceive and convey social identities (especially racial identity, gender, and sexuality) through speech.

Maria Murljacic

Maria Murljacic is a speech language pathologist currently completing her clinical fellowship specializing in voice at the University of Miami in Miami, FL. Maria combined her passions in the musical and scientific side of voice and completed her Masters with a Voice Disorders Concentration at the MGH Institute of Health professions.

Theodora Nestorova

Theodora Nestorova is a Ph.D. Candidate in Music (Interdisciplinary Studies & Applied Performance Sciences) at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music and holds a MM (Vocal Pedagogy & Music-in-Education Concentration) from the New England Conservatory (2021), and a BM (Voice Performance/Musicology) from Oberlin College & Conservatory (2018). A former Fulbright Scholar, Theodora was a 2018-19 Fulbright Study/Research Grant Recipient to Vienna, Austria, studying MA Lied/Oratorio at the University of Performing Arts and Music Vienna and conducting vocology research.

Kalaiselvi Pappankattur Senniappan

Dr. Selvi Pappankattur Senniappan is a speech language pathologist in Houston, Texas. She earned her doctoral degree in speech language pathology from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, India. Her research was on voice science and her dissertation focused on Yakshagana singing, traditional folk music performed in southern parts of India.

Paul Patinka

Paul M. Patinka (they/them/Mx.) lives in beautiful Providence, RI, with their husband and two cats and serves on the faculty at Salve Regina University. Their teaching and research interests center around diverse pedagogies and repertoire at the intersection of critical theory, musicology, and vocology.

Zipporah Peddle

Zipporah Peddle is an Assistant Professor of Voice at Boston Conservatory. She previously served on the theatre faculty at Missouri State University where she created a program of CCM style and pedagogy courses for the BFA Musical Theatre program.

A. Louise Pinkerton

Louise Pinkerton, M.M., M.A., CCC-SLP is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa and SLP with the University Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She specializes in voice and upper airway disorders, performance voice disorders, singing rehabilitation, gender affirming voice care, and supervising graduate student clinicians.

Paul Poovathingal

Rev.Dr.Paul Poovathingal is a Vocologist from India. Founder Director of Chetana National Institute of Vocology, India. Studied voice techniques with Dr.Jeannie Goffi at Columbia University. Completed certificate course in Vocology from National Centre for Voice and Speech, USA. Member of PAVA. Presented research papers related vocology.

Connie Porcaro

Dr. Connie Porcaro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Connie instructs courses at FAU covering Voice, Speech, and Swallowing disorders in adults. Her research focuses mainly on intelligibility in individuals with motor speech and voice disorders.

Teresa Procter

Teresa Procter (she/her) MM, MA, CCC-SLP is a speech pathologist at the Texas Voice Center, Houston Methodist ENT Specialists, adjunct professor at Lamar University in the vocology program, and the Texas Coordinator for Music for Autism, Inc. She is currently a clinical doctoral student at Northwestern University in speech pathology.

Nandhu Radhakrishnan

Dr. Nandhu Radhakrishnan is an Associate Professor in Communication Science and Disorders Program at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas. He received his doctorate at Bowling Green State University, Ohio and completed his clinical fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Board of Directors, PAVA.

Frank Ragsdale

Frank Ragsdale is Chair of Voice at the Frost School of Music and on the faculty of the Herbert FSoM at Salzburg. He is the Coordinator of the NATS National Musical Theatre Competition. He was a Master Teacher at the NATS Intern Program and presenter at the National NATS and ICVT.

Marci Rosenberg

Marci is a teacher, and SLP/clinical singing voice specialist at University of Michigan. She’s Co-author of The Vocal Athlete texts. Marci has been actively involved in PAVA committees since 2016 including: former PAVA Vice President and several PAVA-RV Committees. She has served as Chair of the Symposia Oversight Committee since 2017.

Christina Rosow

Christina Kang Rosow, is a Voice Pathologist at the University of Miami. Christina identified a new type of swallowing disorder that previously went undiagnosed (muscle tension dysphagia). She is a classically trained mezzo-soprano, and a vocal pedagogue helping voice users discover tension free voice, both in speaking and singing.

Douglas Roth

Douglas Roth, MM, MA, CCC-SLP is the Director of Voice Pathology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Voice Program. He began his career as a classical singer and specializes in voice disorders, care of the professional voice, upper airway breathing disorders, swallowing disorders, head and neck cancer and alaryngeal voice rehabilitation.

Matthew Schloneger

Matthew Schloneger is Associate Professor of Voice at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, Executive Director of Opera Kansas, and Executive Director of Opera Seme, a summer young artist program in Arezzo, Italy. He has served as PAVA’s Central Region Governor and was the winner of PAVA’s Best Poster presentation at the 2022 Symposium.

Adrianna Shembel

Adrianna is the PI of the UT Larynx Lab—with joint appointments at The University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center. Her research focuses on the role of the larynx in sensorimotor voice disorders, and relationships between the larynx and articulatory, respiratory, and neural subsystems in vocal function.

Julianna Smeltzer

Julianna earned her MS in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Texas at Dallas. As a graduate student, she worked with Dr. Adrianna Shembel on research involving supraglottic laryngeal configuration patterns. Her current research interests involve mind-voice connections, auditory-perceptual analysis of voice, and how clinical biases impact voice evaluations.

Lori Sonnenberg

LORI L. SONNENBERG is a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Voice Specialist and Singing Voice Specialist with over 20 years’ experience in private practice. She works exclusively with voice, upper airway, and singing disorders and specializes in helping singers overcome voice injuries, muscle tension dysphonia, post-operative voice struggles, and problematic technical voice issues.

Bridget Sweet is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Illinois. She works extensively with adolescent singers and has written two books on the topic. Melanie Tapson

Melanie Tapson is a professional singer, SVS and SLP with a busy Toronto-based voice practice. She has a BFA (jazz voice), BEd (senior vocal music/drama), and MSc (SLP) alongside a diverse professional performance career. She also co-created the PAMA Certificate in Performing Arts Health vocal track and mentors fellow voice professionals.

Ingo Titze

Ingo R., Titze, Ph.D., is the senior scientist at the Utah Center for Vocology. He is the Founder and current President of the National Center for Voice and Speech. Dr. Titze received his B.S. and M.S.E.E. degrees from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in Physics from Brigham Young University.

Natasha Valdes

Natasha Valdes is a certified trauma-informed voice professional through the Voice Study Center with an MM in vocal pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory. Valdes became a trauma voice specialist after struggling to find healing solutions for her own issues with psychogenic dysphonia. Valdes is the founder and CEO of Complete Vocal Wellness, a neuro-centric coaching program for voice users to learn functional-based voice training, increase optimal performance, and heal core trauma wounds. Valdes is known for her therapeutic application of vocal toning and for sharing her research on “Rewiring trauma, anxiety, and depression in the Voice” at conferences like CCDA, ACDA, NATS, CASMEC, and BOCO Vocal Symposium.

Kittie Verdolini Abbott

Kittie Verdolini Abbott, PhD, CCC-SLP, MDiv is Professor Communication Sciences and Disorders and Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware. Her research has spanned topics ranging from hydration to emotions, exercise physiology, wound healing, motor learning, and clinical trials in voice. She is a clinician and singer.

Geddy Warner

Geddy Warner is a Voice Teacher and Vocologist located in New York City and current PhD candidate at New York University. His research focus is on the neurological, physiological, and psychological connection during ventricular fold phonation, and how it develops in practicing ventricular fold users. He hopes to use this research to further the understanding of ventricular phonation and continue to provide and refine a plausible and functional alternative means of communication to those who need it

Haley Wawro

Haley holds her M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory at Berklee and her B.F.A from Brigham Young University in Music Dance Theater. She is a professional performer and voice instructor, with credits including Eponine (Les Misérables), Cathy (The Last Five Years), and Maria (West Side Story).

Stephanie Weiss

Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Weiss has sung internationally with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin Philharmonic, Oper Leipzig, and San Diego Opera, and released the CD “Sacred and Profane”. With degrees from NEC, Tufts, UMKC, Mannes, and UNLV, she is Associate Professor of Voice at Arizona State University.

Judith Wodzak

Judith Wodzak (MA, CCC-SLP, MA Professional Practice Voice Pedagogy, NCVS Vocologist) is a speech language pathologist and vocal health educator in Wisconsin. She came to the field of speech language pathology after her own experience as a singer with a functional voice disorder. Her research interests include functional voice disorders, chronic pain, and non-shaming vocal health education for young vocalists.

Ricki Worth

Ricki Worth is a board-certified music therapist and received her master’s degree at the University of Miami for music therapy. Ricki master’s thesis was centered on a transgender woman’s journey with voice gender congruency. Ricki is passionate about expanding music therapy care to better support individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
